FAQ

How should I prepare for my first session?

After booking your first New Client Session, please budget about 10 minutes to complete your physical/mental health intake form and review and sign the policy and consent forms you receive in your session confirmation email. Please submit these forms at least 24 hours before your session so I will have enough time to review your health history and bodywork goals before you arrive.

In the days leading up to your first session, I encourage you to review the therapeutic modalities page of my website so you can better understand the modalities I practice, how they work, and how they can benefit you. We will also discuss this in person.

In the hours or minutes before your session (perhaps on your drive over), I invite you to check in with yourself by asking yourself questions such as: What sensations (e.g., pain, tension, constriction, numbness, etc.) have I been noticing in my body recently? What kind of thoughts have been running through my head and what emotions are present inside of me? Are there any areas in my life where I'm feeling stuck or blocked? Have I felt connected to or disconnected from my body recently? By tuning in and gathering data on your own inner experience, you will come to your session with greater clarity on what it is that you would like to experience/receive during our time together.

What can I expect during my session?

As a holistic bodywork practitioner, it is important to me that I have an understanding of you and your body's story before I actually begin working with you. Therefore, in all New Client Sessions, we will spend roughly 10-15 minutes reviewing relevant aspects of your health history and discussing your goals for receiving bodywork. This conversation will set a critical foundation for our therapeutic relationship.

During New Client Sessions, clients receive about 70 minutes of bodywork once our intake process is completed. During Returning Client Sessions (in which the intake process tends to be shorter), clients receive 75-80 minutes of bodywork. All sessions are 90 minutes, but I suggest you set aside a total of an hour and forty minutes for your appointment so you have enough time to debrief with me about your experience, pay for your session, and re-book your next session before you leave.

What bodywork modalities will I receive in my session?

In the majority of my sessions, I blend two very complementary bodywork approaches: Craniosacral Therapy and energy healing.

Craniosacral Therapy is a deeply relaxing and nourishing modality that can help clients with a vast array of issues - from muscle pain and tension, to PTSD, anxiety, hormonal imbalances, post-concussion syndrome, autoimmune disorders, and headaches/migraines.

In Craniosacral Therapy we work with the body's craniosacral system (the brain, spinal cord, the membranes that wrap around these structures, and the cerebrospinal fluid that flows through them in a rhythmic way). The craniosacral system has a very strong influence on the nervous system, and the nervous system has a very strong influence on every other system in the body. So when we make positive changes to the craniosacral system with Craniosacral Therapy, we are automatically driving positive changes in all the other systems of the body. This is why I say that Craniosacral Therapy supports self-healing on every level.

Craniosacral Therapy is a fascial modality and an energetic modality. It works with the body's connective tissue (fascia) and energy systems to release points of tension in the body that might be negatively affecting the craniosacral system (and therefore every other system in the body). I personally believe that the energetic aspect of Craniosacral Therapy is very powerful and helps drive transformational change in the body, so I accentuate the energetic element of this work in my sessions and mix in some additional energetic holds when they feel supportive for the client on the table.

I am so excited by the work I do because it really does reach people at the physical, mental, and emotional level. But it takes time for people to drop into a state where deep healing at all of these levels is possible, and that's why all of my sessions are 90 minutes long. I want to give my clients' bodies and minds enough time to drop into a place of profound relaxation where their inner wisdom can come forth to clear, release, re-examine, or re-awaken within them whatever is needed to bring them back into a state of balance and well-being.

For clients who are exclusively interested in energy work, I  offer sessions in which I use energy healing and energy medicine techniques only. This approach is very easy on the body (there is no fascial work involved), so it's an ideal approach for anyone who is recovering from a surgery, healing an acute injury, or in the third trimester of pregnancy.

We will discuss an approach that fits your needs/preferences at the beginning of the session before you get on the table.

How often should I receive bodywork?

This is a great question, and the short answer is: it depends! During your first session when we review your physical/mental health history and bodywork goals, we will discuss this and determine a treatment plan that feels supportive and realistic for you.

For clients who are doing bodywork because they have a specific goal they want to achieve (i.e., some kind of physical, mental, and/or emotional shift they want to make), I always recommend that they consider pursuing a more intensive treatment plan up front. An ideal treatment plan would look like this: 4-6 weekly sessions, followed by 1-2 months of bi-weekly sessions, followed by 3 monthly sessions, followed by sessions as needed for maintenance. The reason I recommend this approach is that we are working to correct/reverse physical, mental, and/or emotional patterns that might have been in place for years or decades. Through our work together, we are inviting your body to release what it needs to release and lay down new patterns, and while this kind of transformation is entirely possible, it will not happen overnight (i.e., after just one session). The body needs time to make and integrate meaningful positive changes. The treatment plan I recommend is a great formula for driving deep and lasting shifts that support your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. I offer discounted series of 5 and 10 sessions for clients who want to book sessions weekly or bi-weekly to help make this treatment plan more affordable. With a series of 5 sessions clients save $100, and with a series of 10 sessions, clients save $300.

For clients who are in good health and enjoy receiving bodywork as more of a wellness tune-up, I recommend coming for a session every 3-6 weeks. At this cadence, sessions provide a deep and nourishing reset for the nervous system and reignite the body's self-healing mechanisms so these clients can continue to stay well and feel good inside their bodies.

No matter what kind of client you are, it's worth noting that the benefits of Craniosacral Therapy are compounding. That means that when you commit to receiving bodywork on a somewhat regular basis, you are likely to experience positive shifts — or even dramatic breakthroughs — at the physical, emotional, and/or mental level. I invite you to consider making bodywork one of your self care or wellness priorities, and then watch as a healthier, more grounded, and more integrated version of yourself begins to emerge.

What do you charge for sessions and how should I pay you?
